Tecno Camon 30S arrives with Helio G100, curved 6.78" display and a 50MP Sony IMX896 camera
In February, Tecno introduced the Camon 30 and Camon 30 Pro, two smartphones that shared many features but differed in a few key aspects. The Camon 30 Pro was designed as a 5G-ready device powered by the Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chip, while the standard Camon 30 stuck to 4G connectivity, relying on the Helio G99 Ultimate processor. Not long after, the Camon 30S Pro made its debut as a 4G alternative to the 30 Pro, utilizing the Helio G100 chip.

Fast forward to the latest addition in this series, the Tecno Camon 30S, which builds on the 30S Pro's foundation. Like its sibling, the Camon 30S also comes with 4G connectivity and the Helio G100 chip under the hood. It offers multiple configurations: 6GB RAM with 128GB storage, 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, and a top-tier 8GB RAM with 256GB storage. Tecno has also introduced virtual RAM technology, allowing users to double their RAM capacity for improved performance.

The Camon 30S continues to follow the design trend set by the S Pro, featuring a curved 6.78-inch FHD+ OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, making for a sharp and vibrant visual experience. The display boasts an impressive peak brightness of 1,300 nits in high brightness mode, ensuring clear visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. Additionally, the panel supports 2,160Hz PWM dimming and offers 10-bit color depth with full coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, delivering stunning, true-to-life colors. For durability, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass, although the exact version remains unspecified.

In terms of resilience, the Tecno Camon 30S comes with an IP53 rating, providing basic dust and water resistance. The touchscreen even works when wet, adding practicality to its design. This upgrade brings it closer in line with premium smartphones, allowing users to worry less about accidental splashes or using the phone in rainy conditions.

On the photography front, the 50MP rear camera (featuring the Sony IMX896 sensor and optical image stabilization) remains unchanged from earlier models, ensuring you capture high-quality shots. Accompanying the main camera is a 2MP depth sensor for improved portrait photography. Both the front and rear cameras benefit from dual-LED flash, though the selfie camera sees a reduction from 50MP on the S Pro to a still-capable 13MP on the Camon 30S, neatly tucked into a punch-hole cutout on the display.

The audio experience on the Camon 30S is also noteworthy, with stereo speakers equipped with Dolby Atmos support for immersive sound. However, one noticeable omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature that some users may miss, especially when compared to earlier models.

Another area where the Camon 30S sees a slight downgrade is in its charging speed. While the 5,000mAh battery remains, the charging rate has been reduced to 33W from the 70W offered in the original Camon 30, making it the slowest charging device in this series. Still, 33W is more than sufficient for most users, allowing for reasonable recharge times.

Tecno continues to add a touch of flair to its devices, and the Camon 30S is no exception. It features color-changing magic, particularly in the Blue variant, which shifts from light purple to dark blue when exposed to sunlight. Other color options include Nebula Violet, which appears as a light purple in dim settings, along with the more classic Celestial Black and Dawn Gold finishes.

For now, the Tecno Camon 30S is available in Pakistan, where only the 8GB RAM/256GB storage version has hit the market, priced at PKR 60,000 (approximately $215/£165/€200). Though the Blue color-changing variant is missing from this lineup, consumers can still choose from the other vibrant color options.

All in all, the Tecno Camon 30S offers an exciting mix of features, blending premium aesthetics, reliable performance, and a few creative touches that make it stand out in the mid-range smartphone market. Whether you're after a sleek design or a phone that can handle daily tasks with ease, the Camon 30S aims to strike that perfect balance.
